Traveling with a parent can be a deeply rewarding experience, offering a chance to create cherished memories and bond in new ways. At the Inn of Chagrin, we often witness these special moments as fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, and families come together to make lasting memories and start new traditions.

One memorable story comes from a guest traveling cross-country with his father, visiting art museums along the way. The son shared how much he cherishes every second of this journey, knowing that their time together is precious. Their shared passion for art made this trip particularly meaningful, creating memories that will last a lifetime. The enjoyed their visit to the Cleveland Art Museum.

Another guest enjoyed a getaway with her teenage son, fully aware that time with him is limited as school, sports, and friends will soon take center stage. She wanted to capture these moments while "mom" is still a priority, knowing that these shared experiences are fleeting. Hiking, shopping and a Guardians game was top on their To Do List and all were accomplished.

It’s deeply touching that, despite losing both my parents, I get to find joy in witnessing the special moments shared between guests and their parents at the Inn of Chagrin. It’s both bittersweet and heartwarming to see those connections unfold, knowing how precious that time together truly is. It adds a meaningful impact on my work at the Inn of Chagrin.

We are honored to be a place where guests feel comfortable creating such meaningful memories. For some, these moments may be among the last they spend together, making them all the more precious. The Inn of Chagrin is the perfect setting to create lasting memories with those you love.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Timeless Treasures: Celebrating Love and Legacy at the Inn of Chagrin

Taking time to enjoy the company of our guests is what we treasure the most. The stories we hear and the memories they share are truly an honor. One particular story stands out as one of the coolest moments we've experienced at the Inn of Chagrin.

Taking time to enjoy the company of our guests is what we treasure the most. The stories we hear and the memories they share are truly an honor. One particular story stands out as one of the coolest moments we've experienced at the Inn of Chagrin.

We often host wedding guests, and the excitement is palpable throughout the weekend as they head to rehearsal dinners, brunches, and the wedding itself. On one Saturday morning, as wedding guests gathered in the lobby to catch the trolley to the ceremony, the groom made his way downstairs. He looked dashing in his tuxedo, but what caught my eye was the chain of a pocket watch draped across his vest. Curious, I commented on how cool it looked, assuming it was a watch tucked into his pocket.

With a smile of pride, the groom pulled out the watch and shared its story. “This is my great-grandfather's watch,” he explained. “It’s been passed down to me. It’s from the late 1800s.” As we marveled at the history of this beautiful piece, an older gentleman entered the room, his face beaming with pride. “That was my grandfather’s watch,” he said.

The groom spoke about how much of an honor it was to wear such a special piece on his wedding day, and we were equally honored to learn about this family treasure and the memories attached to it.

Book a stay at the Inn of Chagrin and treasure your time together, creating your own lasting memories.

A Love Story at The Inn of Chagrin

We met Dave and Mindy in August 2023 during their first visit to the Inn of Chagrin. It was clear from the start that their new love was blossoming. They fell in love with the Inn of Chagrin, Chagrin Falls, and each other during that visit. Dave introduced Mindy to Chagrin because he knew she would love everything about it, just like he did. He wanted to share his Happy Place with her.

We learned all about their love story when he entered our Inn of Chagrin Love Story Contest. They won, by the way! It was a true love story. Dave called and shared the biggest honor with us: he and Mindy were getting married in Chagrin Falls, literally down by the falls, and wanted their guests to stay at the Inn of Chagrin. The fact that our guests could go anywhere to say their "I do's" and they selected the Inn of Chagrin fills our hearts like no other. To say we were honored to be a part of was an understatement.

Planning was so much for with both of them. They created the perfect day, down to every last detail. It truly was a day not to forget! Some highlights, the forecast called for rain, but it didn’t. And their love was so powerful it blew out the electricity for the block. We brought food in from whoever had electricity and wanted to make sure they had full bellies to along with their full hearts. Mindy put it perfectly, "I don't even care about the electricity. I'm so happy, I can't stop crying. I married to the love of my life."

Dave and Mindy fell in love with Chagrin Falls and the Inn of Chagrin instantly, and we fell in love with them. Cheers to years and years of happiness! We'll see you again, we’re sure!! -Love your new family at the Inn of Chagrin

A Touch of History: The Kennedy Connection at The Inn of Chagrin

A Special Connection: The Unexpected Story Behind a Decor Book. One of our staff members donated a John F. Kennedy book that she picked up while cleaning out her grandma's home. As we learned from our designer, Christian Siriano, books can be added to a tabletop and make great décor.

One of our staff members donated a John F. Kennedy book that she picked up while cleaning out her grandma's home. As we learned from our designer, Christian Siriano, books can be added to a tabletop and make great décor.

We placed the book in one of our rooms to complete the look. One day, a guest came down to the front desk with the book in hand. Curious as to why he had the book, our staff inquired. The guest opened the book to a certain page and said, “That’s my dad.” Stunned to see his dad in a book about JFK, the staff member asked for more details. This led to a sit-down with the guest for a special story time.

He proceeded to share that his dad, Bob Foster, was the Secret Service Agent for the Kennedy children during JFK's presidency. He lit up as he shared stories about meeting the kids and Jacqueline after the President passed away. He shared how welcoming Jacqueline was to his family. We all stood in amazement as he shared these very personal, once-in-a-lifetime stories with us. We felt so honored to hear his memories.

How incredible that a book that was special to our staff member because it was her grandmas that was meant for decor in a room brought back beautiful memories for one of our guests and amazing stories for our staff.

That is the difference between a "hotel" and The Inn of Chagrin.

A Journey from Waterford, Ireland to Chagrin Falls

We are thrilled to share the heartwarming story of how a magnificent Waterford Chandelier found its way to the Inn of Chagrin. A heartfelt thank you to the Sobota family for this incredible gift that adds a touch of elegance and history to our establishment.

We are thrilled to share the heartwarming story of how a magnificent Waterford Chandelier found its way to the Inn of Chagrin. A heartfelt thank you to the Sobota family for this incredible gift that adds a touch of elegance and history to our establishment.

The chandelier's journey began in 1993 when Maureen and Ignacy Sobota purchased it from the Waterford factory in Ireland. Residing in Hinton on the Hedges, England, the couple had initially intended to use the chandelier in their new home. However, life took an unexpected turn when their children in Ohio convinced them to move to the United States to be closer to family.

In 1997, during Ignacy’s military move, the chandelier embarked on its first transatlantic voyage, traveling by boat and plane to their son Richard’s home in Kirtland Hills, Ohio. The piece remained in its original packaging as Richard's career led the family from Ohio to Milwaukee and eventually to Denver in 2006. Even when Maureen and Ignacy briefly lived in Castle Pines, Colorado, the chandelier stayed packed away, waiting for the perfect moment to shine. Unfortunately, they passed away earlier than expected, and the chandelier remained unused.

Throughout their frequent visits to the United States, the Sobotàs cherished their trips to Chagrin Falls to visit their granddaughters, Margaret and Molly, both graduates of Chagrin Falls High School (2018 and 2020). These visits were filled with delightful memories, from stops at the popcorn shop and to dinners at M Italian.

In January 2021, Richard, Maria, and their daughter Sophia moved back to Ohio. Sophia, a sophomore at Denison University and a volleyball player for the Big Red, requested a visit to her cousins in Chagrin Falls and a stay at the Inn of Chagrin before her sophomore year began. During this visit, the Sobotàs learned about the inn's renovation plans and felt that the chandelier would be a perfect addition to the inn.

We are overjoyed to see this beautiful chandelier finally displayed in a place that holds special meaning for the Sobota family. It is a symbol of their journey and their connection to Chagrin Falls, a town they have visited and loved in every season. Here’s to creating more cherished memories under its sparkling light.

Summer officially rang in on June 20, and Mother Nature certainly announced it with a heat wave in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. A friend of mine actually invited me to her home in Florida because it was cooler there! But nothing reminds me of summer more than the heat and the music of Jimmy Buffett.

Growing up in Chagrin Falls, Jimmy Buffett at Blossom Music Center was a summer staple. For just $15, you could bring your own chair and enjoy the concert with a vodka-soaked watermelon. Shhh! Those were the days!

On the first day of summer this year, I had the honor of meeting a wonderful couple from Ozark, Missouri. We, of course, got to talking about the show, Ozark and how the show isn't even filmed there. David mentioned it was a good place to hide away if you needed to, similiar to the show. Through further conversation, I learned that he used to be a sponsor for Corona Beer and had the opportunity to meet tons of famous people through his work—Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, to name a few. However, he said there was nobody more gracious with his time than Jimmy Buffett.

David shared that he traveled with Jimmy on the Corona tour and even sold merchandise at the shows. At the end of his tenure, Jimmy Buffett sent him a personalized Gold Album to thank him for his dedication to the tour. "A really class act," he said.

This summer, I encourage everyone to be gracious with their time. Sit back with a margarita and enjoy the sounds of summer—aka Jimmy Buffett.

Cheers to a summer filled with good music, great company, and unforgettable memories!

From an engagement to a wedding and now a cherished return visit, the Inn of Chagrin holds a very special place in the hearts of many of our guests. We are profoundly honored by this connection. One such couple, the Rossilis from Sandusky, Ohio, has a beautiful story intertwined with the Inn of Chagrin that we would love to share.

Gary and Kimberly Rossili first discovered the charm of Chagrin Falls during a visit. During their stay at the Inn of Chagrin, Gary popped the question to Kimberly, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. Last September, they returned to Chagrin Falls, where they tied the knot in front of the picturesque, roaring falls. Their celebration continued with friends back at the Inn of Chagrin, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Just last week, Mr. and Mrs. Rossili graced us with their presence once again. It's moments like these that truly touch our hearts and those of our staff. The fact that there are hundreds of places to stay in Ohio, thousands across the country, and probably millions around the world, yet guests choose the Inn of Chagrin to share such significant moments in their lives, fills us with immense gratitude and pride.

We are truly honored to be part of these special occasions, and we take great pride in ensuring that we continue to cherish these moments. We never take them for granted. We realize that we are one of millions, but we strive to be one in a million for our guests.

To all our guests, thank you for making the Inn of Chagrin a part of your life's most treasured moments. We look forward to welcoming you back and being a part of many more memories to come.

A Morning with Barbara Streisand at the Inn of Chagrin

I just got a little closer to the one and only Barbara Streisand! 🎶 As a music lover, there's never a moment in my life without some tune playing. Maybe it's because music quiets the noise in my head (lol), but it's also how my parents raised me and my siblings. We always had the record player going in the living room or the radio playing in the car, and my mom knew every word to every song. Barbara Streisand was one of those records spinning in our living room, and to this day, I remain a huge fan.

Maybe it's because music quiets the noise in my head (lol), but it's also how my mom raised me and my siblings. We always had the record player going in the living room or the radio playing in the car, and my mom knew every word to every song. Barbara Streisand was one of those records spinning in our living room, and to this day, I remain a huge fan.

Sorry, I digress! Back to the story...

Each morning at the Inn of Chagrin, I take being the music in the lobby very seriously. I have to ensure the music that I ask Alexa to play sets the perfect mood for our guests. The other day, I decided that DJ Lobby would feature Babs! Barbara Streisand is one of the only artists with a large enough catalog to last the entire day.

During check-out, I was chatting with one of our guests who had a strong New York accent. Brooklyn and the Bronx, to be exact, and they were proud to represent. My daughter lives in NYC, so we had a lot to talk about. During our chat, I mentioned that I was playing one of their Brooklyn neighbors, referring to Barbara, and then he dropped the bombshell: "I went to school with her at Erasmus Hall High School."

Of course, I had to stop everything. This would be as close to Barbara Streisand as I would ever get! Questions flew out of my mouth. He said that he "knew of her" and mentioned that she really wasn't in school much because she was out performing. It made me realize that, although she is beyond talented, she went to high school like all of us. Her path was just different from mine. And to be honest, I’m the Innkeeper of the most incredible Inn of Chagrin in the best place ever, Chagrin Falls, and I get to chat with amazing guests, like the Berlins. I wouldn’t trade my path with anyone else’s path! But what I will do in invite Ms. Streisand to Inn of Chagrin.

Barbara, if you are ever in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, you always have a room at the Inn of Chagrin.

Now, what should DJ Lobby play tomorrow? Any suggestions? 🎧

Keep the music flowing!

When You Earned $.10 an Hour!

We recently had the pleasure of hosting a guest who returned to Chagrin Falls for her high school reunion. A proud alumna of Chagrin Falls High School (CFHS), she shared some delightful memories with us that truly highlight the rich history of our town.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting a guest who returned to Chagrin Falls for her high school reunion. A proud alumna of Chagrin Falls High School (CFHS), she shared some delightful memories with us that truly highlight the rich history of our town.

One story that stood out was about her father, James Woodward, who worked at 87 West restaurant back in the day, earning just 10 cents an hour. Despite the modest wages, the restaurant was a beloved spot in the community, famous for its salad bar on the back patio. It was so popular that legendary newscaster Dorothy Fuldheim was a frequent visitor, drawn by her love for the salad bar. She also shared with me that she also worked at the restaurant when it became Gamekeepers, and she was proud to share that she was the “salad girl’. She would work all day in the basement making the salads. She earned a little more than $.10 an hour.

I have lived in Chagrin Falls a long time, but was not familiar with the restaurant 87 West. I knew that 87 West St. is the address of the Inn of Chagrin, but I wasn’t familiar with the restaurant, so I did what I always do when I need to know about anything Chagrin Falls… I reached out to the Chagrin Falls History Center. They shared that 87 West was well-known for its "Courtyard dining." Which kind of made me giggle a little, because we are in Ohio after all and might get 2-3 months of “courtyard dining” in one season. They continued to share that the restaurant advertised its unique dining experience and operated from around 1972-73 until Gamekeepers Tavern took over in 1979. The building also housed an artificial plant company, which is where the Inn of Chagrin stands today and a gentleman named Chester Giltz rented space there too.

You truly to feel he admiration to the property and her happiness while sharing the stories with us. It's incredible to hear such vivid stories and to see how these memories have shaped our community. We are honored to be a part of preserving these cherished moments for our guests and visitors.

If you have any nostalgic stories about Chagrin Falls, we'd love to hear them. Have you ever enjoyed “court-yard dining” at 87 West in the 1970s? Any photos? Sharing these memories helps keep the spirit of our beloved town alive for generations to come.

A Heartwarming Celebration at the Inn of Chagrin

Guests come to the Inn of Chagrin for many reasons, but the reason for a recent guest's stay from Lancaster, Ohio, truly touched our hearts. They called on the same day they needed a reservation, having stayed with us a few months ago. Their first visit was in October after an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic, and they enjoyed their stay so much that they decided to return.

When they called us before their latest appointment, they were considering driving home afterward. However, they soon called back with wonderful news—they wanted to stay with us to celebrate a successful visit to the clinic. Wow! The fact that they chose the Inn of Chagrin to celebrate such a significant moment during their treatment is incredibly heartwarming.

They mentioned that the last time they were here for treatment, their visit to the Inn of Chagrin was so peaceful and Chagrin Falls so charming, that when people asked how the treatment went, they said it was "great." Their friends were confused by the enthusiastic response, so they had to explain that while the treatment itself was awful, the recovery at the Inn of Chagrin and the experience in Chagrin Falls made it great.

Being selected for such a joyous celebration is a true honor. This is why I love what I do. Moments like these remind us of the importance of providing a warm, welcoming space for our guests, especially during pivotal times in their lives.

Here's to many more appointments filled with great news! We are beyond touched that someone wants to come to the Inn of Chagrin to mark such a special occasion.

A Magical Night in Chagrin Falls

Just another reason why Chagrin Falls is the best place to visit!

There aren't many things that "wow" me in life: the birth of my children, the birth of my grandbabies, my wedding day, and oh, the recent Eclipse. However, last night's balloon glow really took my breath away.

I don't know if it was the fact that I was surrounded by hundreds of people filled with the same sense of awe, but witnessing these six balloons light up to music during the night was truly an incredible sight. It was quite magical.

The vibrant colors of the balloons illuminated the night sky, perfectly synchronized with the music, creating an atmosphere of pure enchantment. Families, friends, and strangers alike shared in the wonder, making the experience even more special. There’s something about a collective sense of amazement that heightens the magic of the moment.

Just another reason why Chagrin Falls is the best place to visit! Whether you're a local or a visitor, events like the balloon glow remind us of the unique charm and sense of community that make this village so special. If you haven’t experienced it yet, I highly recommend booking your room for Blossom Time 2025! It’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

Three Years of Growth and Gratitude at the Inn of Chagrin

Today marks my three-year anniversary since returning home to the Monven Group. Reflecting on this journey, I am filled with immense pride at how far we have come with the Inn of Chagrin.

In the past two and a half years, we have achieved remarkable milestones. We've completely remodeled 15 rooms, the lobby, and the study, thanks to the incredible talent of American fashion designer Christian Siriano. Our efforts have been recognized in WWD and Domino magazines and featured on Good Morning America. We even won the Chagrin Valley Chamber's Business of the Year award.

While these accolades are deeply gratifying, the true joy comes from working with an extraordinary team that shares a passion for guest service. Their dedication and enthusiasm shine through every day, making our inn a warm and welcoming place for all who visit.

However, the most rewarding aspect of my role is the opportunity to meet and connect with our incredible guests. I have had the privilege of sitting down with many of you, forming genuine friendships that enrich my life and our business. Each guest leaves a lasting impact on the Inn of Chagrin, contributing to the unique and special environment we cherish.

On a personal note, I’ve taken delight in watching my twin grandchildren grow up in the halls of the Inn of Chagrin. They think it’s super cool that grandma runs the Inn and that she “gave” them a room with two twin beds in it. We’ll let them continue to think it’s “their” room!

Whether you have stayed with us once or are a frequent visitor, we are honored that you choose the Inn of Chagrin as your home away from home. With numerous lodging options available, we are deeply grateful that you select us.

Thank you for making these past three years so remarkable. Here’s to many more years of providing exceptional guest service and building lifelong friendships.

Encounters with our guests at the Inn of Chagrin often unfold in unexpected and heartwarming ways. Recently, I had the pleasure of engaging in a conversation with a guest that led to a remarkable revelation—one that brought to light a connection spanning decades.

As I entered the lounge area, I noticed one of our guests enjoying a drink by the fireplace. Engaging in conversation, we discovered a shared hometown: Wickliffe, Ohio. It's remarkable how a common origin can spark a flood of memories and anecdotes, and soon we found ourselves reminiscing about familiar places and faces.

As our conversation meandered, we stumbled upon a particular family who lived on Ridge Rd., just across from my childhood home. Little did I know, this seemingly ordinary exchange would take an unexpected turn.

The guest recounted a vivid memory from decades past—a moment etched in both our memories. He confessed to being involved in an unfortunate incident where he accidentally hit a dog on Ridge Rd. My heart skipped a beat as I realized the significance of his revelation.

In a serendipitous twist, I decided to call my sister and inquire about a similar event involving our family dog, Daisy, many years ago. As my sister recounted the details, our guest echoed her words, pinpointing the year to be 1976. It was a surreal moment of realization.

In that instant, the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. Our guest, now a stranger no more, was the individual who had encountered Daisy all those years ago. What struck me most was the parallel recollections shared by both parties—the lingering memory of a compassionate act amid a distressing situation.

Despite the passage of time, the memory of that fateful encounter remained ingrained in our minds. My sister vividly remembered the kindness shown by the young boy who stopped to check on Daisy, while our guest recalled the poignant lesson imparted by his father—to always take responsibility for one's actions, no matter how difficult.

This poignant exchange serves as a poignant reminder of the profound impact of simple acts of kindness. It underscores the power of empathy and compassion to transcend time and leave an indelible mark on the lives of others.

As I reflect on this encounter, I'm reminded of the beauty of human connection and the stories that bind us together. In the bustling corridors of our inn, amidst the laughter and chatter, lie moments of profound connection waiting to be unearthed.

Indeed, these serendipitous encounters are a testament to the magic of hospitality—the ability to forge meaningful connections and create lasting memories that linger long after the journey ends.

At the Inn of Chagrin, we cherish these moments of connection and eagerly anticipate the stories that await. For in the tapestry of shared experiences, we find the true essence of hospitality and the beauty of human connection.

Here's to the moments that unite us and the stories that weave us together, one heartfelt encounter at a time.

A Serendipitous Encounter: How a Power Outage Led to a Lasting Guest

In the hospitality industry, serendipitous encounters often lead to remarkable outcomes. Such was the case when a guest, seeking refuge from a power outage, stumbled upon the Inn of Chagrin. Little did we know, this fortuitous event would pave the way for a meaningful partnership with The Spice & Tea Exchange of Chagrin Falls.

In the hospitality industry, serendipitous encounters often lead to remarkable outcomes. Such was the case when a guest, seeking refuge from a power outage during a stay at another hotel, stumbled upon the Inn of Chagrin. Little did we know, this fortuitous event would pave the way for a lasting guest.

Our guest, the COO, Ami Sarnowski, of The Spice & Tea Exchange, was in need of accommodation for three nights due to an unexpected blackout at her previous lodging. Grateful for our availability and uninterrupted power supply, she swiftly made her way to our inn.

Upon her arrival, we welcomed her warmly and inquired about her visit to Chagrin Falls, Ohio. It was then that she revealed her role at The Spice & Tea Exchange, a local gem nestled just steps away from our inn on Main Street. As she finished her comments, guided her to our study, we unveiled our collection of loose teas sourced from, you guessed it, The Spice & Tea Exchange. As she surveyed the selection, a smile spread across her face, and she remarked, "It only makes sense that I stay here from now on." In that moment, a bond was formed, rooted in mutual appreciation for quality hospitality and locally sourced delights.

Throughout her stay, our guest immersed herself in the charm of Chagrin Falls, relishing the convenience of walking to and from work at The Spice & Tea Exchange. As she explored the quaint streets and vibrant community, she experienced firsthand the allure of our town and the seamless synergy between our establishments.

Reflecting on this unexpected encounter, we are reminded of the beauty of hospitality – how a simple act of kindness can forge lasting connections and enrich lives. At the Inn of Chagrin, we had the privilege of being part of an extraordinary event that brought people from all over the country to our little town of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. It all began when we realized the magnitude of the solar eclipse scheduled for April 8, 2024.

In March 2023, the excitement started building as reservations poured in from eager travelers wanting to witness the eclipse from our charming town. As the date approached, we prepared special treats for our guests, including "Moonmosa" breakfasts, Eclipse gum, and personalized glasses in each room.

On the day of the eclipse, I found myself standing in Riverside Park, surrounded by people from all walks of life, all gathered to witness this awe-inspiring phenomenon. The sight of the moon passing in front of the sun took my breath away, and I knew then why so many had chosen to come here.

I had the chance to chat with some of our guests about why they had chosen Chagrin Falls and the Inn of Chagrin for this special occasion. The Delaneys traveled all the way from Irvine, California, to experience it with their son, making plans to return multiple times. Peter, meanwhile, enjoyed the eclipse while fishing for steelhead, appreciating Chagrin Falls' small-town charm and proximity to outdoor activities. We had several guests in from Michigan and California, plus North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Each guest had their own reason for visiting, but we all shared in the same incredible moment. It reminded me of the magic that can happen when people come together to witness something truly extraordinary. We feel blessed that so many chose to share this experience with us at the Inn of Chagrin.
